A Guide To Purchasing Freeview Recorders.

If you want to record a programme that is being shown on the free view television network then a freeview recorder could be just the right thing for you to buy. If you don't know what features you need to consider then this hub is designed to empower you to make the best decision when buying one of these products.

It is a normal feature of a Freeview recorder to include a DVD recorder as its main source of recording those programmes you don’t want to miss. The DVD has taken over where VHS left of and offers better quality playback and more features for playing around with the item that you have recorded.

The next level after the DVD recorder is a combination unit that allows you to record programmes to not only DVD but to a built in hard drive within the unit. This means that you can record straight to the hard drive and then delete the programme once you have watched it, or if you want to keep the programme for longer you can transfer it directly to DVD and free up hard drive space.

With the addition of the freeview hard drive recorder on to the market, this brings many more additional features but the main one that people look for is the storage capacity of the hard drive. Models range greatly, but a standard at the moment seems to be about 160 GB of storage space which equates to roughly 200 hrs of television in standard quality. You can off course record in higher quality but the number of hours you can record decreases exponentially with every higher quality setting you choose.

In your research you should try to look at the capabilities of watching one programme and recording another. Unfortunately a lot of the cheaper models on the market only have one tuner which limits the ability to watch and record different programmes. Other features that make up for this can be the ability to pause live TV if you have a call to nature or a re desperate for a cup of tea! Another great feature that you want to make sure is included in your unit is the ability to change the programme channel automatically at the start of a chosen show.

Freeview recorders are an essential buy for anyone who has freeview and enjoys watching a lot of television as it allows you to never miss your favourite programmes again. With such a small price guide you would be crazy to not consider a purchase.

Record Digital TV 2 years ago

Unless you want to keep your recording, or share it with someone else, then a hard drive recorder - where the TV programme is recorded on to an internal hard disk - may be a better option than a digital DVD recorder.

They allow greater flexibility - you can pause and re-wind live TV, with one click record a whole series of programmes, no DVD's to buy or lose etc.
